Views sought on wetland parks’ study

The Government today launched part two of its public engagement exercise, which runs until January 20, 2024, with the goal of collecting public views on a study regarding the development of the Wetland Conservation Parks System.

To conserve the large areas of diverse wetland habitats in the northern and northwestern New Territories more effectively, enhance their ecological values, and increase the Northern Metropolis’ environmental capacity, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department commissioned a consultant to take forward the Strategic Feasibility Study on the Development of the Wetland Conservation Parks System in August 2022.

The study aims to review the existing conditions of the proposed areas of the Wetland Conservation Parks System with respect to ecological values, land use/planning, aquaculture activities, and eco-education/recreation facilities.

The assessment, which is slated for completion in the first half of next year, will also be used to formulate recommendations on the development of the Wetland Conservation Parks System.

The Government said the consultant will take into account the views collected during parts one and two of the public engagement exercise when preparing the final recommendations.

In the coming two months, the consultant will conduct briefing sessions and meetings with stakeholders to seek their opinions.

Meanwhile, the public can peruse the preliminary recommendations under the feasibility study on a dedicated website, and send in their comments by email.
