VAR change in Serie A and Coppa Italia with referees explaining decisions


There’s a significant change regarding VAR in Coppa Italia as referees will explain On-Field Reviews to the stadium’s crowd during the upcoming semi-finals, while fans will finally see VAR graphics on the giant screens in Serie A matches.

Lega Serie A has confirmed important changes regarding VAR for upcoming Coppa Italia and Serie A matches.

As reported by Sky Sport Italia, the most meaningful is surely the referees’ explanation of On-Field VAR Reviews during the upcoming Coppa Italia semi-finals.

Referees will be allowed to intervene via the audio inside the stadiums to explain their decisions after a review on the pitchside monitor.

This change will only be limited to Coppa Italia matches, so the semi-finals Milan-Inter, Bologna-Empoli, and the Final in May.

A further change concerns Serie A and will be implemented starting from the next league round when fans in the stadiums will be able to see the same TV graphics shown during VAR checks on giant screens to be informed about any ongoing VAR decision.
