Gabriel Basso justifies doing life-threatening stunts in The Night Agent
Gabriel Basso has carved quite a fandom for himself with his starring role in The Night Agent. But a lot of it comes from Basso’s dedication to the role. The actor opened up about many aspects of the series in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Among these, he spoke about the various high-octane stunts that have become a signature of the Netflix show.
It seems that when it comes to stunts, Basso does not like to hold back at all.
Basso discussed pitching story arcs and stunts in the interview. THR asked him if they refused to do some stunts because of the risk it posed to Basso, the actor said, “Yeah. And I say this every time, but I think it should be like what you talk about with the NFL — you’re getting paid millions of dollars to take these hits. It’s part of the risk.”
The actor continued, “Of course, I’m not going to do something stupid, and I’m going to train, and there should be some level of insurance and liability and everything. Even if something doesn’t work, it’s like, ‘OK, he died in pursuit of greatness.’”
When asked what his family thought about this approach, the actor elaborated, “I don’t ask. I’m sure they wouldn’t love getting a call that I’ve been permanently injured, but to me, it’s how did it happen? If I’m speeding down the 101 or the 405 being an idiot, they would hate that. But if it was like, he tried to make film history by doing this — that would be sick.”
He was also asked if he was ever scared of any of the stunts. The Night Agent Star responded, “No. I think if I was scared I wouldn’t do it. Having your adrenaline pumping isn’t the same as fear. The minute you doubt yourself…they call it target fixation in skydiving, where you’re looking at a tree or a telephone pole thinking, “Don’t hit that,” and you start drifting there because you’re looking at it. So if you start thinking about the bad scenarios, then you’re setting yourself up.”
The Night Agent Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
