This Nature Paradise Will Be the Most Popular UK Travel Destination for Brits This Summer

The summer holidays are almost within reach. You may have all your trips planned out already, but if not, now’s a good time to get booking. And if you’re stuck for inspiration, it can be useful to take a look at the places on everyone else’s radar.

Tripadvisor’s Summer Travel Index has revealed the destinations that are most in demand among British travellers for the upcoming holiday season. It creates the list by looking at searches on its site made by travellers in the UK between February and April 2026 for travel between June and August. It then ranks the destinations based on year-on-year growth.

When it comes to international trips, TripAdvisor reported that Brits are particularly interested in travelling to Alicante in Spain. But for staycations, the top trending spot this summer is Grasmere in the Lake District.

Grasmere is a teeny chocolate-box village in the centre of the national park that William Wordsworth once called ‘the loveliest spot that man hath ever found’. More specifically, he said that about Dove Cottage, the house on edge of the village where he lived with his sister between 1799 and 1808. That house is now a visitor attraction, inviting the public to explore the place where some of the finest poems in the English language were written.

Elsewhere in the village, there’s the famous green-fronted shop which has been selling  Grasmere Gingerbread, a chewy spiced biscuit only available in a few select places, since 1854. Then, of course, you have Grasmere Lake. No motor boats are allowed on the lake, so it’s stays relatively quiet throughout the year and is particularly great for swimming, rowing and paddleboarding. For walks, there’s an easy stroll through White Moss Wood or the circular Grasmere Riverside Path which is just under 2km.
