A huge yet disappointing update regarding The Witcher 4 release date has emerged. CD Projekt Red shared it in a Q&A session at the company’s Q3 2025 earnings call, where they discussed plans for its development teams and revealed some important information related to the development of the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2. Notably, the first trailer for The Witcher 4 debuted at The Game Awards 2024.
The Witcher 4 won’t get a 2026 release date
CD Projekt Red revealed at the Q3 2025 earnings call that The Witcher 4 will not arrive in 2026. The game developer held a Q&A session, where CEO Michał Nowakowski and CFO Piotr Nielubowicz answered questions about Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4’s development.
During the aforementioned discussion, Nowakowski addressed questions about The Witcher 4’s development status and technical/design risks that could change the release date. He replied that the game was in its “full-scale production phase.” However, Nowakowski refused to reveal details about its target release window or technical development process. “The only thing we’re commenting is that we’re not launching in 2026,” he added.
Although Nowakowski offered a rather disappointing response regarding The Witcher 4’s target release window, he curbed the disappointment with some good news. He said that future games would release within the next six years, because of which there would be short development windows between The Witcher 4 and its sequels.
“In a way, yes, I do believe that further games should be delivered in a shorter period of time – as we had stated before, our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, betweenTW5 and TW6 and so on,” stated Nowakowski.
The Witcher 4 was recently nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Michal Nowakowski expressed gratitude to fans who nominated the game. Yet, he also told them not to expect any new content for it at this year’s Game Awards.
The Witcher 4 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. It currently has no official release date or window attached. Nevertheless, the game will take place after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It will tell a brand new story with Geralt’s adoptive daughter, Ciri, at the helm.
Geralt will also appear in the game in a supporting capacity, with Doug Cockle reprising his role from previous games. Meanwhile, Ciara Berkeley will voice Ciri in the game. She will replace Jo Wyatt, who voiced the character in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
