A fan-favorite The Pitt character won’t be returning for Season 3.
Created by R. Scott Gemmill, The Pitt is a medical and procedural drama that premiered on HBO and HBO Max in January 2025. The second season of the award-winning show is currently airing, as Episode 13 will be released later this evening. The season has 15 episodes in total.
Who is leaving The Pitt ahead of Season 3?
The Pitt has already been renewed for a third season; however, per Variety, one character who won’t be returning for another shift is Dr. Samira Mohan, played by Supriya Ganesh.
“According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Ganesh’s exit is a story-driven decision,” the article states. “Given that Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is a teaching hospital, it is normal for residents to come in and out.”
Dr. Mohan has been a big part of the show since the first season. This does make some amount of sense, though, given that the character has been trying to figure out where her career will be headed after her residency ends throughout the course of Season 2. She also frequently butts heads with Noah Wyle’s Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch — sometimes in a playful way, and sometimes more seriously in nature — so a change in her work environment could prove to be beneficial for Dr. Mohan.
The Heather Collins character, played by Tracy Ifeachor, similarly was a big part of the first season but did not return for Season 2.
At the same time, it’s also been announced that Ayesha Harris, who plays night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, is being bumped up to a series regular in The Pitt Season 3. Whether that means she’s coming to the day shift or if there’s some other reason why she’ll be around more remains to be seen.
The first 12 episodes of The Pitt Season 2 are currently streaming on HBO Max.
