The new vivo T4 Ultra packs a 3x periscope and Dimensity 9300+ chipset

vivo is adding an Ultra member to the T4 series – what does this phone have to earn this moniker? Well, a telephoto camera for one (the first telemacro in the segment, vivo says) and a surprisingly high-end chipset.

The vivo T4 Ultra is powered by the Dimensity 9300+, which was used in the likes of last year’s vivo X100s Pro – one of the top phones from vivo in 2024. The T4 Ultra doesn’t have X100s-class cameras, but it certainly has its siblings beat – the T4x from March is powered by a Dimensity 7300 and the T4 from April has a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. Both feature 50MP main cameras with small sensors (and OIS on the T4) plus 2MP helper cameras.

The Ultra packs a 50MP Sony IMX921-based main camera (a 1/1.56” sensor seen in the X200s among others). This is behind an f/1.88 lens with OIS.

The star of the show is the 50MP periscope with 3x magnification (f/2.55 lens with OIS) and an IMX882 sensor (1/1.95”). This has a 10x telephoto macro mode and OIS+EIS stabilization for video. Finally, there is an 8MP ultra-wide camera and an Aura Light. The selfie camera is a 32MP unit (f/2.45).

The T4 Ultra has the smallest display in the series with a 6.67” diagonal, but it’s the best panel yet – a quad-curved 1260p+ OLED with 10-bit colors and 120Hz refresh rate. It can reach up to 5,000 nits peak local brightness, peak global brightness is 1,600 nits. There is an under-display fingerprint reader of the optical variety.

The T4 features a massive 7,300mAh battery, the T4x is a step down at 6,500mAh on the T4. The Ultra has the smallest battery in the family with only 5,500mAh capacity. Well, “only”. That is paired with fast 90W charging, but the same is true of the T4 too.

On the plus side, the Ultra is thinner and lighter at 7.43mm and 192g (193g for the Phoenix Gold variant), compared to 8.1mm and 204g on the T4x. And the Ultra has a heavier glass back too, not plastic. However, ingress protection is still middle of the road with an IP64 rating.

The Ultra is available in three configurations: 8/256GB, 12/256GB and 12/512GB. This is with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The Dimensity 9300+ is cooled by a 43.62cm² vapor chamber. The phone launches with FuntouchOS 15 (Android 15) and will receive 2 OS updates and a total of 3 years of security patches.
