Last year, award-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg expressed his desire to direct a Western movie after previously producing the 2005 Western miniseries Into the West. Now, it seems like the acclaimed director’s wish has finally come true, as he officially confirmed the development of his first Western movie.
What did Steven Spielberg say about his untitled Western movie?
Per Deadline, Spielberg offered a brief but exciting update about his untitled Western movie, promising fans that the project “kicks ass.” This seemingly hints at the upcoming film’s action-packed story. At the moment, further details about its plot and characters are still under wraps.
The award-winning filmmaker is currently preparing for the upcoming theatrical release of his star-studded UFO movie Disclosure Day, which will arrive in theaters on June 12. It is directed by Spielberg from a screenplay written by Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp, based on a story by the Oscar-winning filmmaker. The ensemble cast includes Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Wyatt Russell (Thunderbolts*), Josh O’Connor (The Crown), Colman Domingo (Rustin), Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), Eve Hewson (The Perfect Couple), and Noah Robbins (Fly Me to the Moon). It is produced by Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger for Amblin Entertainment, along with Chris Brigham.
This will be Spielberg’s latest directorial feature project since helming 2022’s The Fabelmans, which was loosely based on his early life. Aside from directing, Spielberg has also served on producer on many projects, including Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World Rebirth movie with Scarlett Johansson, Netflix’s The Thursday Murder Club movie with Pierce Brosnan, and Apple TV+’s Cape Fear series with Amy Adams.
