Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon is in development
After nearly two decades, a sequel to Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is officially in progress. Variety has confirmed that Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon is now in development. The upcoming movie will revisit the story of Leslie Vernon, continuing the story of the aspiring serial killer whose journey helped the original film gain a lasting cult following.
The project sees the return of its original creative team, with Scott Glosserman back as director and David J. Stieve once again penning the script. The sequel will also reunite its principal cast, including Nathan Baesel returning as Leslie Vernon, Angela Goethals reprising her role as Taylor Gentry, and Robert Englund back as Doc Halloran.
According to Glosserman, sustained audience interest over the years played a major role in bringing the sequel to this stage. He said, “Fans kept this movie alive by sharing it, quoting it, introducing it to their friends, and treating it like something worth holding onto. This sequel is happening because of them.”
Production of the horror movie is being handled by Paper Street Pictures, led by Aaron B. Koontz and Cameron Burns, with Adam F. Goldberg attached as an executive producer. Alongside its development, the filmmakers are launching a Kickstarter campaign intended to expand the film’s scope. While production is proceeding independently, the additional funding is intended to support expanded scenes and creative additions.
“We’re making the movie either way. But the more the audience gets involved, the bigger we can make it,” the director said.
