The next Galaxy Unpacked is this Wednesday, July 9. It will be held in Brooklyn, New York and will be livestreamed on Samsung’s site and on YouTube. The event is scheduled to start at 14:00 UTC.
Foldables and watches incoming
Samsung’s middle of the year Galaxy Unpacked event is focused on the next generation of foldables, but also brings new smartwatches. This year, we’re waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE from the foldable family and Galaxy Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch8 Ultra from the wearable family.
Let’s have a closer look at each.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 promises an “Ultra” experience, though it won’t be branded as such. The phone is expected to feature a 200MP main camera (similar to the S25 Ultra and Z Fold Special edition). However, the other cameras will be mostly the same – 10MP telephoto and 12MP ultra-wide. The two selfie cameras will be 10MP on the cover display and a 4MP under-display module inside. Samsung has teased AI features for the camera as AI remains a big part of the Galaxy identity.

With this generation, the focus is on slimming down the Z Fold – Samsung says it will be the thinnest and lightest horizontal foldable yet. It is yet to officially confirm the dimensions, but rumored info suggests 8.9mm folded and 4.2mm unfolded and 215g. We’ve heard numbers as low as 3.9mm unfolded, but this might be a question of which part is measured. For comparison, the Z Fold6 is 12.1mm and 5.6mm, weighing 239g, so this is a major redesign. Even the Z Fold Special edition is 10.6mm and 4.9mm. Note that the camera island is not included in these measurements.

However, the slender build comes at a cost – the phone will have the same 4,400mAh battery capacity as its predecessor. The EU energy label has revealed that this would be enough for 40 hours and 28 minutes on a single charge, slightly longer than the S25 Edge. The battery will go at least 2,000 charge cycles before dropping to 80% of its original capacity.
That label also showed that the Galaxy Z Fold7 will have an IP48 dust and water resistance rating, which is no longer the top spec for a foldable. It will have excellent drop resistance and average repairability.
The chipset is no surprise – we’ve already seen the foldable run Geekbench with a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. We think that it will be equipped with 12GB of RAM and it will have three storage tiers: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Leaked prices show that the base model will be around €2,200 and the 512GB option around €2,300 – that’s a €200 increase over the previous model. Of course, the pre-order perks will most likely include a free storage upgrade.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 will be available in three colors, Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow and Jet Black, plus several colors that will be exclusive to units sold through Samsung.com.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE
Rising costs are a concern, so Samsung is expected to launch a cheaper flip foldable this year, which will borrow much of its design from last year’s Z Flip6.
The premium model will be the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7. It will have an edge-to-edge cover display, 4.1”, compared to the “folder”-shaped 3.4” display of its predecessor. It will be thinner too, measuring 13.7mm folded and 6.5mm unfolded with a weight of 188g. For comparison, the 2024 model measured 14.9mm and 6.9mm and weighed 187g. It’s not as dramatic a change as with the Z Fold, but it is appreciated.
Even better, the Z Flip7 will have a bigger battery – 4,300mAh, which is 300mAh more than the Z Flip6 and the FE. The FE model is likely to have the same dimensions as the Z Flip6.

The Z Flip7 will be available in Jet Black, Blue Shadow and Coral Red (plus some Samsung.com exclusive colors), while the FE will have a more basic color palette of Black and White. You can see the renders above, which also showcase the difference in cover displays.
The two models will also differ in processing power – we think that Samsung will put the brand new Exynos 2500 inside the premium Z Flip7, though a Snapdragon 8 Elite variant may be sold in North America and China. Meanwhile the Z Flip7 FE was benchmarked with the older Exynos 2400. The FE only had 8GB of RAM according to the benchmark results and will be offered with 128GB and 256GB storage. The premium Z Flip7 will have more RAM, 12GB, and storage, 256/512GB.
Samsung will introduce the new One UI 8 (based on Android 16) with the new Z foldables. That said, Galaxy S25 units are already doing beta tests.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 carried a price of around €1,400/£1,200 for a 512GB unit, which is €100 more than a 512GB Z Flip6 was last year. As for the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, it will be KRW 1 million in Korea, which will likely translate to $800/€800/£700.
Pre-order and release dates
Samsung normally puts new models on pre-order right after the Unpacked event ends and waits two weeks before going into open sales. That means the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE will be available for pre-order from July 9 and will be released on July 25 (the release is traditionally on a Friday). Samsung US is already running an early reservation campaign, which can net you a $50 coupon.

Galaxy tri-fold
Samsung is expected to showcase a tri-fold smartphone at the Unpacked event this Wednesday, which is said to have a 6.49” cover and 9.96” main displays. However, this may have very limited availability – leaks suggest that it will be sold in only two countries, Korea and China, and only in very limited numbers at that.

The tri-fold model appeared in the One UI 8 code, which indicates that it is a real product rather than just a prototype to show off at the event. Still, most people will likely have to wait until next year if they want a Galaxy tri-foldable. And considering the price hike for the Z Fold7, we think it’s best if you don’t ask how much this one will cost (not that we know).
Samsung Galaxy Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch8 Ultra
Samsung introduced a “squircle” design for the original Galaxy Watch Ultra and now the whole Watch8 family is poised to adopt it. Here are renders of the three upcoming models: Galaxy Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch8 Ultra.

As you can see from the renders, the Ultra has a rotating bezel (encircling a 1.5” screen) and a crown too. The vanilla Watch8 only has two buttons on the side. The Ultra model also has a crown, but we don’t think that its bezel rotates.
There will be no new smartwatch chipset this year, all three models are expected to use the Exynos W1000 from last year. The first two should be available in Bluetooth and 4G variants, while the Ultra is likely to forgo the base Bluetooth variant and be available only with 4G.
A new OS version is coming to Samsung’s wearables too, One UI 8 Watch. It will focus on health with things like bedtime guidance, vascular load and antioxidant features, plus an advanced running coach.

The Galaxy Watch8 will have a slightly bigger battery compared to its predecessor, a minor 10mAh bump on the 44mm variant. The Watch8 and Watch8 Classic will support 10W charging, which is on par with previous models.
By the way, someone was selling a Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic prototype on eBay. It was a 46mm LTE model with 64GB storage – that’s double what the Watch7 and Watch Ultra have.
