Samsung Galaxy M56 is 30% thinner, still has a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging

Later this year, Samsung will release its slender flagship – the Galaxy S25 Edge. But that is not the only thin and light phone on the 2025 roster, the Samsung Galaxy M56 is the slimmest phone in its segment, according to the company.

In concrete numbers, the M56 measures 7.2mm thick and weighs 180g. For comparison, the A56 is 7.4mm and 198g, the M55 is 7.8mm and 180g. All three phones have 5,000mAh batteries and 6.7” screen.

Speaking of the screen, it measures 6.74” and is a Super AMOLED+ panel that is 33% brighter and has 36% slimmer bezels compared to its predecessor, the M55 screen. The 1080p+ panel has a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Galaxy M56 is powered by last year’s Exynos 1480. While not as fast as the current Exynos 1580 (found inside the A56), the 1480 is still a 4nm chip with AMD RDNA 2 graphics and Cortex-A78/A55 CPU cores. Also, it has a 33% bigger vapor chamber than the M55 to help keep it cool.

The chip is paired with 8GB of RAM (LPDDR5x) and 128GB storage (UFS 3.1). There is no word on a microSD slot, but the device has two SIM slots and sub-6GHz 5G (bands: 1, 3, 5, 8, 28, 40, 41, 78). Other connectivity options include USB 2.0 Type-C, Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.3. There’s no NFC.

The camera system features a 50MP main with an f/1.8 OIS-enabled lens and 4K @ 30fps video recording. Video recording supports 10-bit HDR mode. There is no telephoto lens, instead the main camera has an in-sensor 2x zoom.

Also on the back are an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro cam. On the front is a 12MP selfie camera (f/2.2 FF lens). Galaxy AI features are available to help you edit photos (Edit Suggestions), remove unwanted objects (Object Eraser) or turn them into clip art (Image Clipper).

As mentioned above, the battery has 5,000mAh capacity with 45W charging, just like its predecessor.

There is no dust or water resistance rating, but Samsung did toughen up the M56 compared to the M55. It gave it name-brand glass on the front and back, Gorilla Glass Victus+, with 4x the scratch resistance of the unnamed glass of the old model. Also, it tested the phone for 2m fall endurance.

The Samsung Galaxy M56 is manufactured in India and will receive software support up to the end of 2030 (that is 6 OS updates and 6 years of security patches). It will be available soon in Light Green and Black.

The Galaxy M56 will go on sale in India on April 23 with a starting price of ₹25,000 (this converts to $295/€260). You can find it on Amazon India.
