Russian air strike on Kyiv injures two and damages buildings – World News

Russia launched an air attack on Kyiv and its surrounding region early Sunday morning, triggering Ukraine’s air defense systems to engage and repel the strikes, according to statements from the mayor of Ukraine’s capital and the Kyiv regional administration on the Telegram messaging app, reported the Reuters.

Reuters witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions in and around Kyiv, consistent with air defense systems intercepting incoming weapons.

The head of the Kyiv region’s state administration reported that two people were injured and numerous residential and other buildings were damaged in the overnight missile attack. According to Ukraine’s Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk, three missiles were launched by Russia, with Ukrainian air defense systems successfully destroying two of them over the Kyiv region. Oleshchuk did not provide details on the fate of the third missile.

The debris also caused damage to six multi-story residential buildings and over 20 private houses. Additionally, a gas station, a pharmacy, an administrative building, and three cars were damaged.

The air raid alerts were in effect for Kyiv, its surrounding region, and several other areas across Ukraine for about an hour, starting at 4:50 a.m. local time (0150 GMT). Reuters witnesses noted that the sounds of explosions during this period appeared to be from air defense systems intercepting air weapons.
