Royal Mail delays hit London as 44 UK postcodes affected today — full list

Many homes and businesses aren’t going to get their mail on time.

Royal Mail has issued another delivery disruption notice affecting postcodes throughout the United Kingdom, including areas of London. The postal service has attracted widespread criticism regarding delayed deliveries while increasing stamp prices.

Earlier this week, its billionaire owner Daniel Kretinsky told MPs: “Of course I am deeply sorry for any letters that arrive late.” Nevertheless, he rejected suggestions that Royal Mail’s punctuality record was worsening.

While being questioned by the Commons Business select committee, Mr Kretinsky commented: “It is not perfect, but it is not catastrophic.”

The organisation received a £21million penalty last October for failing to meet First and Second Class delivery standards during its previous financial year.

Merely 77% of First Class post and 92.5% of Second Class were delivered on time in its 2024-25 financial year – falling below its respective 93% and 98.5% benchmarks, reports the Mirror.

This announcement follows confirmation that First Class stamps will rise to £1.80 and Second Class stamps to 91p, effective from April 6. A First Class stamp cost just 76p in 2020.

As of Thursday, March 26, disruptions have affected numerous regions across the UK including postcodes around Whitechapel. Presently, 21 delivery offices are experiencing setbacks, creating a domino effect across 44 postcode districts.

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week,” stated Royal Mail.

In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive. We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”

Over the previous 24 hours, Royal Mail’s road and air network functioned according to schedule. However, difficulties arose at Manchester Mail Centre.

Certain mail posted within the BL, M, OL and SK postcode districts intended for delivery today to other regions of the UK were affected.
