“Since launching Roast Summit in 2020, the response from the roasting community has been overwhelmingly positive,” says Roast magazine founder and publisher, Connie Blumhardt. “Every in-person event has sold out, and the demand for high-quality, technical coffee education continues to grow. We’re thrilled to welcome everyone back to Portland for what promises to be our most dynamic Summit yet.”

Confirmed speakers for the 2025 event include:

Sessions will explore topics such as electric roasting infrastructure, roasting darker profiles, and scientific insights into the coffee supply chain. Hendon’s session, Coffee Literature Review, will delve into recent research and its relevance to coffee professionals, while Schmidt’s talk will critically examine the challenges and costs of transitioning to electric roasting systems. Rob Hoos will lead a session on flavor and texture in darker roasts.

Roast Summit will take place over two days, beginning on Thursday, Oct. 2, with a full day of lectures and hands-on training sessions from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by a casual happy hour from 4:30 to 6 p.m., offering attendees a chance to unwind and connect with fellow coffee professionals. The event continues on Friday, Oct. 3, with another day of engaging lectures and practical workshops from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., wrapping up the Summit with a strong focus on collaboration, learning, and community.

Following the Roast Summit, the inaugural Portland Coffee Festival will take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at The Redd on Salmon Street. This event celebrates the Pacific Northwest’s vibrant coffee culture, featuring local roasters, artisans, and specialty vendors. Attendees can enjoy live roasting demonstrations, hands-on brewing workshops, guided tastings, and discussions on topics like decaf processing and the parallels between coffee and craft whiskey. The festival also offers curated food pairings from Portland’s own Kaan. Tickets are priced at $35 USD for the one-day event.
