SHELLEY — If you love coffee and want to try interesting new flavors and add-ins, a trip to this coffee shop in Shelley will be well worth it.

Mckenzie Stephenson, owner of Rise and Grinds Coffee Co., says she opened her business in December as a place for people to connect over their shared love of coffee.

“I initially started as a fun place for people to come and connect, and be able to have alternative milks, different kinds of coffee,” says Stephenson. “I’m really catering to my customers and creating a product that they would love.”

We were lucky enough to try three of Rise and Grinds Coffee Co’s most popular drinks, starting with the iced “Screamin’ Monkey.”

“I owe a lot of it to Angela Clark,” says Stephenson. “Through trial and error, we went through a bunch of different recipes, and we modified it to our tastes.”

This drink is an iced coffee with white chocolate, banana, coconut and almond milk. I’m not a huge banana/coconut person, but these flavors melded together really well. The white chocolate is the star flavor, and it was perfectly refreshing and sweet.

Next, we tried the hot chocolate with dairy-free whipped cream and crushed thin mint Girl Scout cookies.

“This, I love, because I go through and try to make creative recipes,” says Stephenson. “Everything I do, I do in mind with who I can give back to, so that was one of the drinks where I was like, ‘I’m gonna support the Girl Scouts!’”

I am a big fan of hot chocolate, and this one was straight-up delicious. I also love Girl Scout cookies (who doesn’t?), and this was a delicious mix of mint and chocolate.

Lastly, we tried the Sunrise, a Redbull energy drink with peach, coconut, heavy whipping cream and whipped cream.

“This is something I’ve always loved,” says Stephenson. “I’ve been a barista several times in my life, in high school and college, and this was one of my go-to drinks.”

This drink tasted like an Italian soda, and I loved every second of it. The peach flavor was definitely the star, and the added cream gave it a delicious “peaches and cream” vibe.

Stephenson says the cafe also specializes in different wellness boosts, so if you’d like to try something new and exciting with your coffee, this is the place.

Every drink I tried at Rise and Grinds Coffee Co. was terrific, and I highly recommend stopping by for your next caffeine fix!
