Real Madrid no longer interested in Arsenal target, want Liverpool midfielder instead

Real Madrid plan to go after the signing of a new midfielder in the summer transfer window, having not replaced Toni Kroos last summer.

With Luka Modric’s continuity uncertain as well and concerns over the stagnation of Eduardo Camavinga’s development, a new midfielder seems to be very much on the agenda at the Santiago Bernabeu.

For a long time, Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who is also a priority target for Arsenal, was touted as a key option for Los Blancos to reinforce their midfield department.

After all, the Spanish international has been a consistent and reliable performer for club and country and will be available for €60 million – his release clause amount – in the summer.

Zubimendi not in Real Madrid’s plans

However, according to the latest update from journalist Jose Felix Diaz (via Ruben Martin YouTube), Zubimendi no longer features in the summer transfer plans for Real Madrid.

Despite their known admiration for the 26-year-old as well as the intent to add more Spanish players to the squad, it appears that the Merengues no longer consider the Sociedad star as a key target to strengthen their options in the middle of the park.

One of the reasons behind this could be the strong interest Arsenal have in Zubimendi, with the Gunners confident of their chances of signing him, having already laid down the groundwork for his acquisition.

Real Madrid want Alexis Mac Allister

Instead, the journalist states that Real Madrid have their sights set on a move for Liverpool and Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu not so long ago, and earlier this month, his father discussed the possibility of a transfer to the Spanish capital club, not ruling out a move.

Now, it appears that Real Madrid have made the former Brighton & Hove Albion ace as their main target to reinforce the midfield.

Any move, however, will not be easy to pull off considering that Mac Allister is a key player for Liverpool and would likely command a sizeable fee.
