Belagavi: Five students from the government-affiliated colleges of Rani Channamma University (RCU) will visit the United Kingdom from Nov 9–23 to participate in a Scholars for Outstanding Undergraduate Talent (SCOUT) programme. This programme commenced this year following the collaboration between the Karnataka State Higher Education Council and the British Council.
RCU vice-chancellor Thyagaraja MC and registrar Santosh Kamagouda briefed media persons here on Wednesday. The VC said the University of East London will host the delegation. Meera Mehaks Nadaf and Anamika Arun Shinde of Sangolli Rayanna First Grade Constituent College, Belagavi, Yuvaraj Patil of Govt First Grade College, Khanapur, and Jagadish Arabhavi and Daneshwari Madar of Govt First Grade College, Gokak are the selected degree students. Nodal officer Ashok Antony Jacob D’Souza will accompany them.
The VC said this initiative aims to broaden the students’ academic horizons, foster international collaboration, and provide them with invaluable exposure to global educational practices. During the comprehensive short programmes, there will be specialised lectures and workshops, cultural exchange sessions, visits to local industries, exploration of London including visits to historical landmarks, and participation in seminars focused on global challenges and innovative solutions.
According to Thyagaraja, a total of 30 students from six govt universities of the state have been selected for this programme. He said the university will bear the cost of travel while other costs, including visa, food, and accommodation, will be covered by the British Council. After returning, the students will submit a report to the University of their experiences and skills they learned.
New campus work in progress
The VC said the work of the new campus of the university at Hirebagewadi is underway. The construction of almost seven buildings is complete and works like road and water supply are pending. The work was a bit delayed because of incessant rainfall. “However, the contractor is supposed to hand over the campus by March next year,” he said.
