Oppo Find N5 debuts as the slimmest foldable yet

The race to launch the slimmest foldable continues and Oppo just got in the lead. We’ve seen plenty of phones that employed innovative designs and reorganized internal structures to reach bar phone territory and the Oppo Find N5 is the slimmest offering to date.

Oppo announces its razor-slim Find N5

Coming in as the highly anticipated successor to the Find N3, the N5 builds on top of it in almost every meaningful way, starting with the design.

At 4.21mm in its unfolded state, the Find N5 is barely thicker than the USB-C port, and 8.93mm when folded back up, Find N5 takes the crown as the slimmest book-style foldable phone to date.

To put that into context, the Honor Magic V3, which was the current slimness champion, is 4.35mm unfolded and 9.3mm folded, while the Galaxy Z Fold6 measures 5.6mm and 12.1mm respectively.

So how did Oppo get here? It all starts with the Titanium Flexion Hinge that’s 26% smaller in size than the Find N3’s hinge while offering improved rigidity. Oppo employed a complex 3D-printed titanium wing panel and a blend of carbon fiber material to help keep the N5’s weight down to 229 grams.

The N5 is not only slim and light, but it boasts the world’s first IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 water resistance rating for a foldable. This means it can handle pressurized water jets of hot water and submersion. The frame of the phone is made from 7000 series aluminum.

The new hinge also helped in the longstanding battle with the dreaded display crease on the main panel. Oppo went with an 8.12-inch LTPO OLED main screen with FHD+ resolution and 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The panel gets a 9.9:9 aspect ratio and up to 2,100 nits peak brightness.

There’s a 6.62-inch LTPO OLED outer screen with FHD+ resolution and 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. That panel boasts a 20.7:9 aspect ratio and up to 2,450 nits peak brightness. Both screens are compatible with the Oppo Pen stylus, which is sold separately.

Let’s switch to the cameras where the Find N5 employs a trio of sensors and processing developed with Hasselblad’s assistance. The 50MP main cam gets a LYT-700 sensor with a 21mm equivalent focal range and OIS. It is joined by a 70mm equivalent 50MP periscope (Samsung JN5) with 3x optical zoom. The third shooter on the back is an 8MP ultrawide (15mm) with autofocus capabilities.

The N5 is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite – Oppo went with the binned version which features one less performance core. It is paired with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage in the only version available in international markets.

The software side is covered by ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. Oppo is pledging 4 years of Android version updates and 6 years of security patches. Find N5 also gets a 5,600 mAh silicon carbon battery with 80W SuperVOOC wired and 50W AirVOOC wireless charging support.
