- Onvo president said L80 orders are slightly better compared to the L90’s performance during the same period last year.
- The new model, with a starting price lower than the L90, is seen as key for Nio Inc to counter industry headwinds and boost delivery growth.

Shares of Nio Inc surged more than 7% in early Hong Kong trading on Wednesday, following the debut and pre-sales launch of its sub-brand Onvo’s latest L80 SUV (sport utility vehicle).
The strong rally followed a positive performance of the company’s American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), with Nio closing up 2.09% in regular US trading on Tuesday and rising nearly 3% in after-hours trading.
Investors reacted positively to the Chinese EV maker’s product line expansion, as the Onvo L80 large five-seater SUV officially opened for pre-sales on Tuesday.
The starting price for purchasing the whole vehicle is 245,800 yuan ($35,694), which drops to 159,800 yuan if customers opt for the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental option.
The new vehicle will officially hit the market on May 15, and the final price is expected to be further reduced from the current pre-sales price.
Orders for the L80 are slightly better compared to the L90’s performance during the same period last year, Onvo’s president said in a media communication on Wednesday.
Unlike other automakers, Nio Inc never discloses specific order numbers for any model. The L90 initially started pre-sales on July 10, 2025, and was launched on July 31. Last week, Onvo rolled out the 2026 L90.

Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li detailed the vehicle’s technical specifications at Tuesday’s event. The SUV’s pre-sales price is 7.52% lower than the 2026 L90.
Showroom models of the Onvo L80 have already arrived at Onvo stores across China, and test-drive events will officially open to potential buyers nationwide on May 1.
Its official launch date is set for May 15, which coincides with the two-year anniversary of the Onvo brand’s official launch.
Touted as the model with the largest cargo space in its class in China, the five-seater SUV boasts a total storage capacity of up to 2,840 liters to meet family travel needs.
The L80 adopts a dual-track smart driving technology strategy, with its high-end version equipped with LiDAR and Nio’s in-house developed Shenji NX9031 chip.
Meanwhile, the pure-vision version of the model will feature Nvidia’s Orin X chip, a product strategy that offers flexible choices for consumers with different budgets.
Built on advanced 900-volt high-voltage technology, the new car will offer consumers rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions, with the all-wheel-drive version taking only 4.7 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour.
Nio is relying on an intensive new product launch schedule to counter current industry headwinds and maintain steady delivery growth momentum in a fiercely competitive market.
The entire Chinese EV sector showed an upward trend in early Wednesday trading, with Nio’s peers Xpeng, Li Auto, and BYD all recording solid gains.
The Onvo L80 is available for pre-sales starting at 245,800 yuan ($35,940) including the battery pack, 7.52% lower than the L90.
