Nio (NYSE: NIO) saw a spike in battery swap services during the just-ended Labor Day holiday in China, as the driving travel rush arrived.

During the five-day holiday, which ran from May 1-5, Nio provided 634,177 services at its 3,302 battery swap stations in China, according to data released yesterday by the electric vehicle (EV) maker.

During the holiday, more than 120,000 battery swaps were performed daily, with an average of one vehicle completing a battery swap every 0.6 seconds, according to the company.

Nio saw 134,770 battery swap services on May 1, the first day of the holiday, the highest for a single day of the five-day break. On May 5, there were 131,984 battery swap services in a single day.

This single-day number of services is close to the record 136,720 services during the Chinese New Year holiday three months ago.

As of May 6, Nio had 3,302 battery swap stations in China, 983 of which are located along highways.

It has cumulatively provided more than 73 million battery swap services since its first battery swap station went into operation.

On the highways, about 81 percent of Nio users get energy for their cars from battery swap stations.

Compared to the same holiday last year, there was a 64 percent increase in the average daily number of services provided by battery swap stations along highways.

The busiest battery swap stations were located on the G15 Shenyang-Haikou highway, with 63 stations providing an average of 3,374 services per day.

This is followed by the G3 Beijing-Taipei highway, with 45 battery swap stations providing an average of 1,902 services per day.

The number of single-day services at the Xiangshui service area station along the G15 highway reached 150, the busiest for the holiday. The next busiest was the station at the Jiande service area on the G6021 Hangzhou-Changsha highway, with 149 services in a single day.

During the holiday, Nio’s 26,189 charging piles in China provided 452,511 charging services, with 87 percent of the power used to serve non-Nio customers.

From May 1-5, Nio provided more than 13,050 flexible battery upgrades, with 4,099 Nio users sharing their long-range battery packs.

Nio now has 183 battery swap stations in Shanghai, providing more than 9,000 services per day.
