Ng On-yee’s performance praised

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung today congratulated billiard player Ng On-yee on winning the Australian Women’s Open 2023.

Noting that Ng On-yee had shown superb skill in her victory, Mr Yeung said her success proved Hong Kong’s strength in the sport.

“Ng started learning to play billiards when she was young, and then rose to become a full-time billiard athlete,” he said. “Her remarkable achievements reflect the importance of beginning training for elite athletes at a young age.”

The sports chief also said he hopes legislative amendments proposed by the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau will help nurture more talent in the sport.

The amendments include the relaxation of restricted hours and the minimum age of young people’s entry into licensed billiard establishments.
