Green I&T Day 2023 was held today to promote innovation and technology (I&T) solutions to achieve carbon neutrality targets.
Delivering a video speech at the opening ceremony, Secretary for the Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan said the event not only showcased the achievements of green I&T technologies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, but also provided a high-level exchange platform for green and low-carbon development.
He noted that following the country’s directive of the “dual carbon” target, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is striving to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050 and pursuing the target of reducing the city’s carbon emissions by 50% before 2035 as compared to the 2005 level.
With the Environment & Ecology Bureau and the Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Exchange Office of the China Association for Science & Technology as advisors, the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science & Technology jointly held the event.
Experts from Hong Kong and the Mainland shared their experience in adopting I&T to reduce carbon emissions, under the themes of “green transformation” and “journey to carbon neutrality”.
The event also brought together 15 local and Mainland exhibitors to showcase their I&T achievements in energy conservation as well as new and renewable energy.
At the event, the EMSD signed the Memorandum of Co-operation on Green Intelligent Technology & Artificial Intelligence Standards for Electrical & Mechanical Systems of Buildings with the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Building Research Group and the Guangdong Province Construction Technology & Standardization Association.
The pact aims to facilitate research and preparation of technical guidelines, deepen application of artificial intelligence and develop green intelligent and digitalisation technologies among the three signing parties.
The event attracted over 200 participants from sectors including I&T, the electrical and mechanical trade, universities and public organisations in the Greater Bay Area. More than 100,000 views were recorded for the live broadcast.
Director of Electrical & Mechanical Services Eric Pang led a delegation to attend the event held in Guangzhou.
