Mookie Betts provided more information about his currently undiagnosed stomach illness. It was earlier reported that the MLB star, who plays at shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers, had become ill before the Dodgers’ flight to Japan for the Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs. At the time, Dave Roberts, the Dodgers manager, disclosed that Betts had lost 15 pounds. He missed both games, and the team sent him back to the US earlier than the rest of the roster. Since then, he has remained on the sideline and recently noted that he had grown tired of it.
Mookie Betts reveals how he is dealing with stomach issues
Mookie Betts vomited multiple times when the team was in Tokyo, and the Dodgers decided to remove him from the batting order 90 minutes before the game. The baseball player revealed recently that he had been unable to keep down solid food for the last two weeks, vomiting every time he ate any.
“I mean, I feel great,” Betts stated. “Like, my body feels great. I’ve been able to work out. I’ve been able to do pretty much everything but eat, which is strange. So the symptoms have kind of gone away, I just have to figure out how to get my stomach to kind of calm down.” (via mlb.com)
Betts divulged that he felt these symptoms right before the Dodgers took on the Cleveland Guardians in the Cactus League finale on March 11. When the spring training began, he weighed 175 pounds, and now he reportedly weighs 157 pounds.
Betts reportedly can drink and consume various types of liquids. He has undergone multiple tests and blood work, but a diagnosis is yet to be made. He expressed frustration about not being part of his team’s recent matches. “I just want to play, man. I’m tired of sitting, tired of throwing up, tired of doing all this. I really just want to play,” he said.
