Mangaluru: A surprise inspection conducted at the Mangaluru district prison led to the seizure of prohibited items, including a mobile phone and SIM card, from an inmate.The complainant, Sharanabasappa, superintendent of the district prison stated that on Jan 30, he, along with other officers conducted a surprise inspection inside the prison. During the inspection, while checking room No 3 of ‘A’ Block, a body search of inmate Mohammed Afreed was carried out.During the search, a sim card, a black-coloured keypad mobile phone with a battery, and a white charging cable were found concealed in the inmate’s undergarments. On questioning, the inmate stated that the seized items did not belong to him and claimed that they belonged to another inmate, Mohammed Iqbal, son of Basheer.Following discussions with senior officials, a complaint was filed seeking appropriate legal action against the concerned inmates after verification of the prohibited items.
