MLB trailblazer Kim Ng declines 2024 option with the Miami Marlins: First woman to serve as general manager in  the four major US sports leagues steps down after postseason berth

Miami Marlins general manager Kim Ng will not be returning to the team next season after declining her option for 2024.

Ng took the job in 2021, becoming the first woman to serve as a general manager of a team in any of the four major US professional sports leagues.

She had a successful 2023, helping the Marlins reached the postseason, where they were bounced in the wildcard round by the Philadelphia Phillies in just two games.

‘The Miami Marlins announce today that Kim Ng will not be returning as the club’s General Manager,’ read the team statement.

‘Although the club exercised its team option for her to return for the 2024 season, Kim has declined her mutual option. We thank Kim for her contributions during her time with our organization and wish her and her family well.

‘We will immediately begin a thorough and extensive search for new leadership as we plan to continue to invest in the Marlins organization both on and off the field. We are committed to our fans and the South Florida community and look to build off the momentum of the great progress of this year.’
