When he was growing up, Wang Jiangtao was the kind of exemplary student any parent could wish for. Now, at the age of 34, after spending seven years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the rising academic star has chosen Peking University as his next career destination.
According to the university’s website, Wang is now a principal investigator and doctoral adviser at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, where he is collaborating with Professor Zhang Jin, the school’s vice-president, while maintaining independent research projects.
In 2009, Wang began attending Tsinghua University, one of China’s top universities, to study physics. He earned his doctorate in physics from Tsinghua in 2018.
In 2024, Wang was honoured with an award from the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund, a programme dedicated to attracting overseas-based young scientists to return to China.
This month, after five years as a postdoctoral researcher and two years as a research scientist at MIT, Wang’s name appeared on the official website of Peking University – another top-tier institution in Beijing.
Wang showed an early aptitude in scientific research, displaying both talent and a solid work ethic.
