Hulu expands its movie library with the addition of Paramount Pictures’ 2022 martial arts comedy, featuring an all-star cast led by Michael Cera and Samuel L. Jackson. Set as a loose remake of the iconic 1974 movie Blazing Saddles, the animated comedy film Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank is now officially available to stream on Hulu.
What do we know about Michael Cera & Samuel L. Jackson’s Blazing Saddles remake?
Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank was directed by Rob Minkoff, Mark Koetsier, and Chris Bailey, with Ed Stone and Nate Hopper writing the screenplay. Since it’s a loose remake of Blazing Saddles, original writer-director Mel Brooks, along with co-writers Richard Pryor, Andrew Bergman, Norman Steinberg, and Alan Uger, have also been given writing credits on the 2022 animated movie. Brooks was also part of the film’s voice cast, playing Shogun Toshi, which was inspired by his character in the original film.
“A down-on-his-luck hound finds himself in a town full of cats who need a hero to defend them from a ruthless villain’s evil plot to wipe their village off the map,” reads the official synopsis. “With help from a reluctant trainer, the underdog must assume the role of fearsome samurai and team up with the felines to save the day. The only problem is…they all hate dogs.”
Besides Cera, Jackson, and Brooks, the cast also included Ricky Gervais as Ika Chu, George Takei as Ohga, Michelle Yeoh as Yuki, Aasif Mandvi as Ichiro, Gabriel Iglesias as Chuck, Djimon Hounsou as Sumo, and more. During its theatrical run, the animated comedy wasn’t able to match the original live-action movie’s critical success. It currently holds an approval rating of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes.
