Jaipur: Health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar on Thursday urged the younger generation to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle for optimal physical and mental wellbeing. Several events were organised in the city to mark World Mental Health Day (Oct 10). World Health Organisation’s theme for 2024 is ‘Mental Health at Work,’ which emphasises the crucial link between mental health and the workplace, said psychiatrists from SMS Medical College who met Khimsar and stressed the importance of prioritising mental health at the workplace.
Dr Lalit Batra, superintendent of the psychiatric centre at the medical college, said efforts are on to raise awareness about mental health at work through various initiatives.
“Due to corporate work culture, there is more emphasis on employees’ productivity at the workplace, but there is hardly a system in place to identify stress and depression among employees. Without adequate support, individuals dealing with mental health challenges can experience diminished self-confidence, and frequent absences,” said Dr Alok Tyagi, head of psychiatry department at SMS Medical College.
