In a recent interview about his new memoir, former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter has revealed his thoughts about the attitude of Meghan Markle during her 2017 cover for the magazine. The veteran journalist noted that the former actress reacted to her interview in a way that he found surprising, prompting Carter to comment on her approach. Here’s what the Air Mail co-founder had to say about the Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan Markle needed reality check, claims Graydon Carter
Recalling their interaction in 2017, when he headed Meghan Markle’s cover interview with Vanity Fair, Graydon Carter stated, “Jane Sarkin, who booked our covers, came in and said, ‘We should do a cover on Meghan Markle. I said, ‘I have no idea who that is.’ She said, ‘She’s on ‘Suits.’ I said, ‘I have no idea what that is, why should we do a story on her?’ So she said, ‘Because she’s going to marry Prince Harry.” (via Page Six)
Carter claimed that Markle said to him, “Excuse me, is this going to all be about Prince Harry? Because I thought we were going to be talking about my charities and my philanthropy.” Reacting to her comments, the ex-Vanity Fair editor joked, “This woman is slightly adrift on the facts and reality.”
In addition to his opinion about Meghan Markle, Graydon Carter also had some comments about Prince Harry’s position with the royal family. While commenting on his interactions with the late Princess Diana, he noted that he believed that she would probably be upset upon seeing Prince Harry’s split from the British royal family. “I would think she would feel great sorrow for her son to have been pulled away from his family like this, especially his brother, but also his father. Anytime someone comes between siblings, that’s a disaster, horrible for a family,” he said.
