MediaTek announces Dimensity 9400e chipset for flagship devices

MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 9400e, a new chipset in the company’s flagship Dimensity family. The 9400e sits below the 9400 and the 9400+ models, and is essentially a rebranded 9300+ from last year with minor changes.

The Dimensity 9400e has the company’s All Big Core design, which includes 1x 3.4GHz Cortex-X4, 3x 2.85GHz Cortex-X4, and 4x 2.0GHz Cortex-A720 CPU cores, same as the 9300+. There’s also 8MB L3 cache and 10MB SLC. The chip supports up to 8533MHz LPDDR5X memory, which is a drop from the 9600MHz supported by the 9300+. There’s also UFS 4 + MCQ storage support. The 9400e also uses the same 12-core Immortalis-G720 MC12 GPU as the 9300+ with hardware accelerated ray-tracing support.

MediaTek announces Dimensity 9400e chipset for flagship devices

Most of the media and connectivity features remain the same between the two chips. However, the 9400e does have faster 7.3Gbps Wi-Fi peak data rate compared to 6.5Gbps on the 9300+. There’s also faster Bluetooth 6.0 with dual Bluetooth engine, and MediaTek claims it has a connection range of up to 5km within line of sight. The 9400e also supports the latest MediaTek NeuroPilot SDK, enabling modern AI technologies, including support for Multi-Modality (LMM), Large Vision Models (LVM), and additional Language Models (SLM/LLM) from the global AI ecosystem.

On the gaming front, the 9400e supports MediaTek HyperEngine and MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology as the 9300+ for improved performance and lower power consumption, but also adds MediaTek Frame Rate Converter, which claims to reduce power consumption by 40% when enabled without specifying how.

You can expect to see this chip relatively soon. Sister brands OnePlus and Realme have both announced support for the chipset, with OnePlus including the chip in its upcoming OnePlus Ace5 Racing Edition for China and Realme featuring it in its Realme GT 7 smartphone. Both devices are expected to launch this month.
