Liev Schreiber Talks About Daughter Kai Coming Out as Trans

Acclaimed Tony Award-winning actor Liev Schreiber candidly discussed parenting his transgender daughter, Kai. He reflected on a transformative moment in their family journey. The actor, who shares Kai with former wife Naomi Watts, shared that the most “profound moment” in their journey as parents was when their daughter asked to change her pronouns.

What did Liev Schreiber say about daughter Kai?

The French Dispatch star Liev Schreiber opened up about his trans daughter Kai. The actor recently told Variety in an interview, “Kai was always who Kai is.” The 57-year-old actor added, “But I suppose the most profound moment was her asking us to change her pronouns.”

For Schreiber, the change felt very easy. He gushed, “To be honest with you, it didn’t feel like that big of a deal to me only because Kai had been so feminine for so long.” Schreiber’s daughter Kai will join her father and the actor’s current wife, Taylor Neisen, at the Ali Forney Center’s A Place at the Table Gala on May 9 in New York City.

The gala highlights the center’s work around the LGBTQ youth communities. The Ali Forney Center mainly works to assist homeless queer people. As per Variety, the center assists over 2,200 young people to find emergency housing solutions and transitional housing sites.

Meanwhile, Kai has also started her career in the entertainment industry as a model. The daughter of Schreiber and Watts made her runway debut in March, walking for the luxury brand Valentino.

Schreiber noted the importance of having more representations like Kai as part of a community. “Kai is such a fighter. It’s important that she goes, ‘Hey, I am trans,’ and, ‘Look at me,’” he added.

Kai’s parents, Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts, broke up after eleven years of staying together in 2016. The pair, who share two children, Alexander “Sasha” Pete Schreiber and Kai Schreiber, revealed, “The best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple” (via PEOPLE).

Later, Schreiber tied the knot with former pageant queen Taylor Neisen in July 2023. A month before Schreiber’s wedding, his former wife, Watts, got married to Billy Crudup at the New York City courthouse. A year later, The Morning Show actor and the King Kong star celebrated their union in Mexico with an extravagant ceremony (via PEOPLE).
