Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos are once again making headlines, this time after Sanchez joked about the possibility of expanding their newly blended family months after the couple’s lavish wedding.
In an interview with The New York Times published on Saturday, April 11, Sanchez, 56, was asked whether she and Bezos, 62, were considering having a child together. “I would have another one tomorrow. Tomorrow,” Sanchez said.
When the reporter followed up, she doubled down on the remark with what the paper described as a “coy smile.”
A spokesperson later clarified that Sanchez is not actually expecting.
The comment came less than a year after Sanchez and Bezos tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in Venice, Italy. The wedding, which followed their 2023 engagement, became one of the year’s most talked-about celebrity events, with high-profile guests, multiple days of celebrations, and extensive media coverage surrounding the Amazon founder and former television journalist.
Sanchez has been open about the close relationship she and Bezos have built with their children. She shares son Nikko, 25, with former NFL player Tony Gonzalez and son Evan, 19, and daughter Ella, 18, with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell. Bezos, meanwhile, has four children with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott.
Sanchez has also spoken publicly about learning to successfully coparent with Gonzalez after their split. “I’m not saying that being best friends with your ex is the end-all be-all,” she said in a 2023 interview. “But you do need to be able to communicate.”
She added that her son has benefited from seeing both of his parents maintain a positive relationship, saying, “I’m the luckiest boy in the world because I can have Thanksgiving with both my parents and they don’t have to be married.”
Family also played a major role in Sanchez and Bezos’ wedding. During the Venice ceremony, Sanchez’s sons walked her down the aisle, while her daughter served as maid of honor. According to The New York Times, Sanchez became emotional as she reflected on the speeches her children gave during the celebration.
