Will it be a record-growing 36th La Liga title for Real Madrid, the defending champions of Spain’s top-flight?
Barcelona are the leaders in the chase for the crown, having won in 2022-23, and Barca will now have a match-in-hand likely deep into May following the unexpected death of team doctor Carles Miñarro García, which caused the postponement of their March 8 game against Osasuna.
So Madrid derby rivals Atletico Madrid and Real could pass the Blaugranas in what is a true three-way race for the crown, though Barca remain joint-top with Real on 60 points.

Last season’s surprise package, Girona, have dropped out of the top-four race after finishing third in 2023-24, but Athletic Bilbao have taken their place and seek a first top-three spot since finishing second to Barca in 1997-98. Dangerous Villarreal loom just below the top four.
There’s also a former champion languishing in the relegation fight, while Mallorca are a surprise in the fight for European qualification.
Below, find the leading scorers for this season as well as the most recent standings.
Who will win La Liga 2024-25?
Barca lead Real Madrid on goal differential and Atleti by four points after Lamine Yamal’s stoppage-time winner capped a 3-2 comeback from 2-nil down at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday, March 18.
The Blaugranas have a match-in-hand on both teams. Barca play Real Madrid in Barcelona on May 11, while there are no Madrid derbies left this season.
Who will be relegated from La Liga?
Last season saw Cadiz, Almeria, and Granada relegated, while Leganes, Valladolid, and Espanyol came up from Segunda Division.
Valladolid is currently in last, while Espanyol and Leganes are safe for the moment. Las Palmas are in trouble while once-mighty Valencia are just a point outside the bottom three, truly remarkable as Los Ches have been in La Liga since 1987-88, twice winning the league near the turn of the century. This would be a major fall. Alaves are also in the relegation zone.
Are there any American players in La Liga?
Two at the moment following Sergino Dest’s permanent move from Barcelona to PSV Eindhoven.
USMNT star Johnny Cardoso is playing regularly for Real Betis, scoring in an upset of Real Madrid on March 1, while fellow national team midfielder Luca de la Torre started the year at Celta Vigo but has left to join MLS expansion side San Diego FC.
U.S. youth international Diego Kochen, 18, is on the books at Barcelona B.
