Germany’s goalkeeper situation looks all but settled ahead of the 2026 Men’s World Cup. Bayern Munich legend Manuel Neuer is still retired, and TSG Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann, who has guided Die Mannschaft through the World Cup Qualifiers, looks set to inherit the role.
“I’ve made my position on the matter clear, and Manu has also clearly stated his opinion. He was the one who retired,” Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann shared for Kicker, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “I still believe he’s doing a very good job, that he’s a very good goalkeeper, but we also have an outstanding goalkeeper in Oli Baumann.
“If Oli stays as healthy and stable as he is now, he’ll have a great World Cup. We have absolutely no concerns about the goalkeeping position. There are a few other areas where I have more concerns.”
Could that be the last word? Oliver Baumann should have a firm grip on the starting goalkeeper’s gloves heading into the World Cup.
