The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.8% in the three months from July to September, unchanged from the June to August period, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.

The underemployment rate also remained at 1%.

Total employment increased by about 5,800 to 3,720,300, while the labour force expanded by around 7,700 to 3,834,300.

The number of unemployed people increased by around 1,900, to 114,000. Meanwhile, the number of underemployed people decreased by around 1,000 to 37,900.

The unemployment rates of various sectors stayed low in general from July to September, mostly showing only small changes compared with the preceding three-month period.

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun said the continued growth of consumption and tourism-related activities would continue to support the labour market.
