The movies of Kevin Smith have birthed a ton of memorable characters, but none are more notable than those of Jay and Silent Bob. The iconic duo have been featured in numerous movies, made cameos all over the place, and now are at the center of their own video game, in the form of the upcoming Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch.
During the PAX East 2026 convention, ComingSoon got the chance to check out the game, which perfectly captures the zany, crude, and fun essence of Smith’s View Askewniverse.
The first things fans will notice when it comes to Chronic Blunt Punch is the game’s look. The game takes on an almost comic book-like look for some of its visual styles, complete with exaggerated looks for Jay and Silent Bob. It’s a style that feels right at home in the world of Smith, who is not only a big comic book fan, but has used the world of comics for some of his movies in the past. The game largely sees you traversing levels complete with references to Smith’s View Askewniverse, and as such, we’re treated to a lot of New Jersey, convenience stores, arcades, and more.
Of course, gameplay is what you’d expect from a game emulating the side-scrolling beat-em-ups of the past. Where Chronic Blunt Punch separates itself, though, is by incorporating almost fighting game-like mechanics into battles. Jay and Silent Bob each have their own special moves that can be done by inputting certain combos, triggering almost “super”-like moves. You can also summon in assists from other characters, including other folks from past Smith movies, like Clerks’ Dante.
However, the system isn’t always perfect. Being just slightly off on any combo can result in failure, and sometimes even successfully nailing a move can fail if you’re aiming in the wrong direction or just slightly aiming off from an enemy. Still, the added mechanics do make for a lot of fun, and actually make you think about how you’re approaching attacking enemies versus simply just going in and spamming buttons to get an encounter over with. It may not be the most complex thing in the world, but it’s enough to keep the game from ever feeling too stale.
Of course, a game about Jay and Silent Bob wouldn’t really be much without humor. Chronic Blunt Punch delivers here, thankfully. Most of the jokes are visual, but occasionally you’ll be treated to some funny text from enemies or people in the background of levels. However, some of the game’s humor does feel a bit dated. The game, surprisingly, has been in development for almost a full decade. The game first popped up on the now-defunct crowdfunding platform Fig, predating not only the 2019 movie Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, but even consoles like the Nintendo Switch, so you’ll often run into gags that feel as if they are more at home in a pre-2020 world. Enemies include guys who look straight out of a “millennial hipster” meme from the 2010s, zombies addicted to their phones, and the Zoomer generation.
Even though the comedy can be dated, it still mostly works, which fits with the charm usually found in Smith’s movies. Outside of that, the game is downright fun to play. I found myself immediately wanting to get back into the game once my demo was over, and itching to maybe try out some different attacks the next time I ran into some enemies.
Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch Preview: Final Verdict
Despite the ups and downs of the game’s road to release, developer Interabang Entertainment kept at it, and the fruits of their labor have been realized. Chronic Blunt Punch is a hilarious, fun, and surprisingly engaging beat-em-up that not only captures the magic of the classic genre but also that of Smith’s iconic world of movies.
