Italian Papers tell Inter to sell two players after 3-0 Milan Coppa Italia loss

Inter’s 3-0 loss against rivals Milan in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final on Wednesday night has led to calls for Inter to sell two of the players in their starting line-up on the night, as Mehdi Taremi and Kristjan Asllani continue to underwhelm in Nerazzurri colours.

A brace from Luka Jovic and a result-sealing goal in the 85th minute from Tijjani Reijnders knocked Inter out of the Coppa Italia, and also ended their hopes of recreating Jose Mourinho’s famed 2010 treble winning season.

Despite sitting at the top of the Serie A standings and being in the Champions League semi-final, Inter have failed to beat ninth-placed Milan in any of their five meetings this term: Two draws and three losses.

Wednesday’s result was the heaviest defeat of the season, and only the third time that Inter have conceded three or more goals in a game this term: The first in a 4-4 draw with Juventus, the second in the Supercoppa Italiana final against eventual champions Milan (3-2).

Gazzetta recommends Inter sell two starters from Inter 0-3 Milan

La Gazzetta dello Sport labelled the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final as Inter’s ‘worst 90 minutes of the season’.

The Pink Paper also criticised Taremi and Asllani, who they claim have continually failed to make an impact during their time in San Siro.

La Gazzetta dello Sport goes as far as recommending that both be moved on during the summer transfer window. Asllani still has three years remaining on his current contract, while Taremi, who joined on a free transfer in the summer, has another two.

Given that Inter did not invest a significant sum on a transfer fee for Taremi, Thursday’s article suggests that the Nerazzurri could be tempted into letting the Iranian leave as long as they find a club willing to take on his salary in full.
