Iran Nears Deal With China for CM-302 Anti-Ship Missiles Amid Rising US Tensions — UNITED24 Media

Iran is nearing a deal with China to acquire CM-302 anti-ship cruise missiles, aiming to enhance its military capabilities. The missiles, which have a range of 290 kilometers and are designed to evade ship defenses, could pose a serious threat to US naval forces in the region, Reuters reported on February 24.

The potential sale comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Iran, with China asserting its role in the Middle East as it strengthens ties with Tehran.

It was previously reported that a surge in US military air activity across Europe and the Middle East was described as one of the most significant movements of American aircraft in decades, as tensions remain high over Iran.

The deal has been in the works for over two years and intensified after the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June 2025. Senior Iranian officials, including Deputy Defense Minister Massoud Oraei, visited China to finalize discussions. If completed, this would mark one of the most advanced weapons transfers to Iran, defying the United Nations’ arms embargo, according to Reuters.

The CM-302 missiles would significantly boost Iran’s naval strike capabilities, with experts noting that their supersonic speed and low flight path make them difficult to intercept. These weapons are also seen as a response to US naval presence in the region, with China positioning itself as a counterbalance to American influence in the Gulf.

In addition to the CM-302 missiles, Iran is reportedly in talks to acquire other Chinese missile systems, including surface-to-air missiles and anti-ballistic weapons, further consolidating military cooperation between the two nations. This partnership could complicate US efforts to limit Iran’s missile capabilities and nuclear activities, Reuters wrote.

Earlier, Iran had received its first Mi-28NE Night Hunter attack helicopter from Russia, marking a key milestone in a 2023 procurement deal amid growing military pressure from the US.

The helicopter, part of Russia’s efforts to strengthen its military ties with Iran, was photographed at a facility in Tehran for inspection, signaling its readiness for operational use in the future.

The Mi-28NE, designed for export, is equipped with advanced features for engaging both ground and aerial targets, including a 30mm cannon, air-to-ground missiles, and unguided rockets. The helicopter’s robust armor and avionics ensure its survivability and effectiveness in combat, including low-altitude operations, day or night.
