Walking into McClelland Reynolds’ Mid Levels residence feels like stepping into a sanctuary above the clouds, where the boundaries between indoors and outdoors dissolve. On that particularly foggy day, the apartment’s elevation made it feel all the more enchanting, as if the home was floating in a dreamlike haze. Inspired by the verdant landscape surrounding her home, McClelland Reynolds thoughtfully extended the green hues of Hong Kong’s trees into her interior design. Warm undertones, rich textures, and intricate patterns dominate the palette, creating an inviting space that’s both lively and grounded. With a background in fashion retail, including experience at renowned brands like Burberry and Tory Burch, McClelland Reynolds’ keen eye for detail and love of design shine through every corner of the space.

McClelland Reynolds’ connection to her home runs deeper than design aesthetics; it’s layered with meaningful objects, many of which come from her own brand, Permanent Resident. Co-founded with her business partner Lucia Tait Tolani, the brand celebrates versatile, timeless pieces designed to bring beauty and functionality into everyday life. “We have extended our idea of home into our brand, connecting our personal beliefs and professional endeavors. We often laugh that we would and have happily purchased everything in our collection, which truly reflects our shared belief in versatility, beauty, and celebrating the unexpected and unique,” she explains.
One standout item is the Athena wall brackets, handmade in the Philippines from pencil reed. “The pencil reed material adds texture and dimension, perfectly balancing out the modern lines of my flat,” McClelland Reynolds shares. Inspired by vintage designs, these sculptural brackets serve as pedestals for her ever-changing collection of treasures — whether it’s a small potted plant or a hand-carved ceramic vase. “I believe that a home continues to evolve based on the items you collect, and it’s fun to have pieces that let you adapt, play and showcase new finds,” she adds.

Of all the spaces in her home, the open living room holds McClelland Reynolds’ heart. It’s where her family gathers, where friends are hosted, and where memories are made. In the heart of the living room, a carved wood coffee table takes centre stage.” It serves as a stage for my children’s latest puzzles and toys during the day, then transitions to an evening aperitivo service for gatherings with friends,” she shares. Comfort is paramount in the living room. Deep, custom-crafted sofas invite you to sink in with a book or stretch out with a glass of wine.
Above it all hangs a striking artwork by Brazilian artist Mariana Palma, a cherished gift from Cinda’s husband after the birth of their first child. The painting’s vibrant colours and intricate composition radiate energy, tying the room together with a sense of vitality. “What makes this area special to me is the combination of practicality, comfort, and personal significance,” she reflects.

The living room’s layout is intentionally fluid, blending seamlessly into an office nook adorned with floor-to-ceiling grass cloth. The textured walls add depth and warmth, setting the office apart while maintaining a cohesive flow throughout the home. “This cosy nook houses our vinyl collection, making it a perfect spot to enjoy our favourite music, creating an energetic and enjoyable mood for the home,” she explains.

When asked for advice on discovering personal style, McClelland Reynolds’ response is simple: “Authenticity is key — your style should reflect who you truly are. Incorporating personal touches, such as cherished items or one-of-a-kind finds, adds depth and meaning to your look. Remember, style is a journey, not a destination. It’s about evolving and discovering what resonates with you at different stages of your life.” In this Hong Kong home, this philosophy comes to life, with every room telling a story — of love, of style, and of a life well-lived. Each corner feels curated yet approachable, like a heartfelt conversation that tells an evolving narrative that grows alongside her family and their shared dreams for the future.
