As the Easter holiday commences, the Immigration Department (ImmD) expects today to mark the peak of outbound land travel.
By 4pm, over 656,000 departures had been recorded at various border points. The highest traffic was observed at the Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, where over 130,000 travelers crossed into the mainland.
Additionally, Shenzhen Bay Port witnessed 86,000 departures, while the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB) saw 84,000 travelers. The high-speed train facilitated 66,000 departures, and 64,000 individuals opted for air travel.
The Transport Department has noted that local and cross-border public transport operators will enhance their services during the Easter holidays.
They advise travelers to plan their journeys in advance, allocate sufficient travel time, and, if possible, travel during off-peak hours to avoid congestion.
The MTR Corporation has announced an increase in train frequencies on the East Rail Line today and the following Monday to accommodate the surge in passengers.
The Airport Authority has reported that due to the holiday rush, long-term parking spaces at Airport Carpark No. 4 are fully occupied. They recommend that travelers use public transportation for airport access.
