Huawei’s Pura series has become the breeding ground for the brand’s latest camera developments, and the Pura 80 Ultra offers the most capable setup to date. This year’s headlining factor is a massive 1/1.28-inch periscope telephoto sensor attached to two lenses.
Huawei managed to integrate an intricate moving mechanism that shifts between the two lenses. You get 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom with sensor-shift OIS between the two units.
This effectively means that you can capture shots at f/2.4 aperture with an 83 mm equivalent focal length or at f/3.6 aperture with a 212 mm focal length.

Pura 80 Ultra also boasts a 50MP main shooter featuring a 1-inch type RYYB sensor with variable f/1.6 – f/4.0 aperture and OIS. Huawei claims shots from the main shooter offer 15x higher dynamic range compared to the Pura 70 Ultra.
The 1″-type main sensor gets 16EV dynamic range
In fact, the main shooter is rated at 16EV dynamic range, which is a record achievement for a smartphone. This should translate to improved preservation of light and dark details in images and video.
The Pura 80 series also gets photographic style with Nature, Film, Movie and Cartoon presets. Huawei has developed a new real-time fusion technology for video that preserves highlight details. Pura 80 Ultra also features a 40MP ultrawide lens (13mm) and a 1.5MP multi-spectral color sensor.
Outside of the cameras, Pura 80 Ultra brings a quad curved 6.8-inch LTPO OLED with FHD+ resolution and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It is protected by second-gen Kunlun glass and boasts up to 3,000 nits peak local brightness.
There’s no info on the chipset at the helm, so we’ll have to wait for teardown videos for that info. We do know that the Pura 80 Ultra features 16GB RAM as standard and is configurable with 512GB or 1TB storage.
The Pura 80 series boots HarmonyOS 5.1, and in the case of the Ultra, we have a 5,700 mAh battery with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. The phone is also IP68/69 water and dust resistant.
Huawei Pura 80 Ultra comes in Black and Gold colors.
The 16/512GB trim comes in at CNY 9,999 ($1,391) while the top-tier 16GB and 1TB version will go for CNY 10,999 ($1,530). Buyers in China can pre-order both versions starting today, while first deliveries are expected to begin on June 26.
