Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Design debuts

Honor introduced today the luxurious Magic7 RSR Porsche Design, a premium smartphone that builds upon the Magic7 Pro and offers small improvements over the already impressive general flagship.

There are many features that remained unchanged, like the battery capacity with powerful charging capabilities, a trio of mighty cameras and a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.

The Magic7 RSR Porsche Design has a 6.8” LTPO OLED with 1 billion colors and a Full HD+ resolution (it is actually higher, but Honor avoids the 1.5K marketing slogan). The panel has a peak brightness of 5,000 nits and protective glass certified to be ten times more durable against scratches and drops.

The fingerprint scanner under the panel is now ultrasonic, upgrading from the optical solution Honor used in the Magic6 series.

The trio of cameras on the back is the same 50 MP main + 200 MP portrait telephoto + 50 MP ultrawide combo as on the Magic7 Pro. However, Honor brought a 1200-point LiDAR solution for the periscope lens to improve stabilization even in 60fps video recording, a feature that debuted in the Magic6 RSR.

The front camera combo is also the same as the Magic7 Pro: a 50 MP main camera and a 3D sensor for facial recognition and better depth effects in portrait selfies.

This Magic7, being a new phone, comes with the latest MagicOS 9.0 that brings plenty of Magic AI features, like a personal agent, AI translation, and two-way noise reduction in calls.

Connectivity-wise, we can see the usual Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi, but there is also a custom-made Honor C2 chip that combines more 5G band coverage and provides non-stop connectivity when switching between cellular network and Wi-Fi.

The Magic7 RSR also supports two-way satellite connectivity but is limited to the Beidou satellite, used by China Telecom. This means the feature will be unavailable on units, designed for the global market.

The battery here is 5,850 mAh with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. Honor also used an in-house chip, E2, for the charging, as it is specially designed to improve efficiency and enhance the battery life.

The phone is IP68 and IP69-certified and has a tray for two nano SIM cards. There is also an NFC and an IR blaster, and the phone supports stereo sound.

Honor Magic7 RSR Porsche Design comes in Provence Purple and Agate Ash (Gray), with the former option also being a color option for the Porsche Taycan 4S electric vehicle, while the latter is a metallic option for the Porsche 911 (992).

There are two prices – CNY7,999 ($1,100/€1,050) for 16 GB + 512 GB memory or CNY8,999 ($1,230/€1,185) for 24 GB + 1 TB. They are already available for purchase in China, but we have to wait for an international launch, which isn’t confirmed at this point.

Why I’ll Never Buy a Gaming Phone

Summary Gaming phones are overpriced flagships that lack top-tier cameras and long-term software support. Mid-range devices offer sufficient gaming performance, making flagship chips unnecessary for mobile gaming.
