A new wearable device data report has shown that Hong Kong users averaged 10,663 steps a day, ranking them first in the world for average daily figures for the second consecutive year.
The 2025 Garmin Connect Data Report highlights global fitness and activity trends based on metrics such as average stress and daily step counts.
According to Garmin’s statistics, Hong Kong’s daily average steps not only far exceeded the global average of about 8,300, but also represented an increase from last year’s 10,340 steps.
The analysis links Hong Kong’s top ranking to its high-density urban design and extensive public transport network, with most people relying on public transit, making walking an essential part of daily routines.
The report also notes that overall activity levels are rising worldwide, and in Hong Kong, a strong hiking culture on weekends, along with daily commutes, further contributes to the city’s high step count.

Globally, after Hong Kong, South Korea ranked second with an average of 9,969 steps, followed by Spain (9,937), China (9,794) and Ireland (9,735).
