At least four dogs in a rural area in Hong Kong have died from suspected poisoning, prompting a police investigation.
Police received a report at around 8am on Friday from a pet owner on Kwu Tung South Road in Sheung Shui who said two of his dogs had gone missing and four others were dead in suspected poisoning cases.
The dogs’ mouths were open when they were found dead.
In a reply to the Post, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said its inspectors had travelled to the scene at the request of police.
It said the inspectors had discovered the two adult dogs and two puppies – comprising a male and three females – dead at the scene.
“There were no visible injuries on the bodies, and none of the dogs had microchips,” the society said.
