Hong Kong police are investigating the death of a 66-year-old man who fell from bamboo scaffolding, with drugs discovered in the flat he climbed out of.
The force said the man, surnamed Yip, was found unconscious on a platform at 3 Nelson Street in Mong Kok at 2.38pm on Saturday. He was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital in Yau Ma Tei but was subsequently declared dead.
Police said detectives from its Mong Kok district criminal investigation team had taken over the case and were looking into the circumstances behind the fall.
Preliminary investigations showed that the man climbed onto the scaffolding from a flat in the building before losing his footing and falling.
Officers subsequently found about 90 suspected midazolam tablets, a type of tranquiliser, and tools for drug consumption in the flat. The seized substances have an estimated market value of about HK$1,200 (US$153).
Following initial investigations, the case has been classified as a fall from height. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident so far.
