Some restaurant management staff at McDonald’s in Hong Kong have been given an average pay rise of 3 per cent, the fast-food chain said on Monday, as it also announced price increases for some menu items.
The pay rise took effect on January 1, with employees showing excellent performance eligible for increases of up to 5 per cent.
The fast-food chain also said that 12,000 of its frontline and office staff have each received a HK$500 (US$64) red packet, partly in celebration of the franchise’s 50th anniversary in Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, the company raised prices on certain items by about 50 HK cents on January 2, saying it was its smallest increase in a decade.
Its Filet-O-Fish will remain at HK$14 – the third consecutive year its price has been frozen – according to a spokeswoman. A set with six chicken nuggets will continue to cost HK$18, with no change for the second year running.
Prices for the sausage McMuffin, an egg and cheese burger set with a hot drink, the Big Mac set and all signature collection sets will also remain unchanged at HK$15.5, HK$18, HK$44.5 and HK$46 respectively.
Two set meals – honey barbecue crispy thighs and spicy crispy thighs – have been reduced by HK$11.5, from HK$50.5 to HK$39.
