Owners of a private housing estate in Tuen Mun have voted overwhelmingly to terminate their renovation contract with Prestige Construction and Engineering Company – the same contractor responsible for works at Tai Po’s Wang Fuk Court, in the aftermath of the deadly blaze.
At a general meeting held on Friday night at Elegance Gardens, 96.45 per cent of 1,655 effective undivided shares held by flat owners voted to terminate the contract.
Several owners who spoke to the Post said they no longer trusted the company to complete the renovation safely and feared the project might be left unfinished.
“We are worried about whether the renovation would become an incomplete mess. That’s why so many flat owners came down for the meeting,” Eric Yu, who owns a flat in Block Two of Elegance Gardens, said.
The meeting drew 253 flat owners, representing 31.6 per cent of all owners in the estate.
Officials from the Buildings Department and Home Affairs Department, along with a district councillor, also took part in discussions on how to handle the estate’s existing scaffolding.
