Fans of Bruce Lee will mark the 85th anniversary of his birth with a new monument, adding another attraction to a decade-long memorial trail that celebrates the martial arts star’s Hong Kong roots.
The plan was unveiled on Tuesday by Bruce Lee Club chairman Wong Yiu-keung, who said the club would construct the monument at Bruce Lee’s former family residence in Jordan, Kowloon, to commemorate his early life there.
“We hope to extend the trail, and the monument will serve as the starting point for this new section, allowing more tourists to understand him [Bruce Lee],” he said, adding that the project was expected to be completed within the next two to three years.
Wong said the monument would be situated on the site of the former Katherine Building, currently occupied by the Prudential Hotel and Centre, adding that the development was supported by the developer.
“The Bruce Lee Way” set up in 2013 covers six locations, including the Tai Kok Tsui school toilet, where his fighting skills were first recognised.
The trail also includes the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui, where the club has erected a bronze statue of Lee; Ocean Terminal, where he posed for a photo set for film company Golden Harvest; two missionary schools, Tak Sun School and La Salle Primary School, where he was educated; and Tsing Shan Monastery, a filming location for Enter the Dragon.
