In recognition of Art Month in Hong Kong, Luxury Group by Marriott International has announced a revolutionary program titled “Art of Arrival,” a brand-new artist-in-residence program aimed at revolutionizing the art of arrival. This program will feature a dynamic exhibition by emerging Chinese artist Chen Zuo, offering a thought-provoking exploration of location, point of view, and artistic expression. This artist-in-residence program will provide a crossroads between cultural discovery and luxury travel, providing guests with a more immersive experience when arriving at Marriott’s luxury properties.
A Journey Across Places and Perspectives
The inaugural chapter of “Art of Arrival” took place in Suzhou, a city in eastern China known for its classical gardens, tranquil waterways, and distinctive architecture. The artist residency was hosted at The Ritz-Carlton, Suzhou, where Chen Zuo drew inspiration from the natural beauty and historical elements that define the region. Suzhou’s famous Taihu scholar’s stones, its ancient gardens, and serene waterways provided a rich cultural and environmental backdrop for Zuo’s work.
Suzhou’s blend of nature and urbanity, as well as its centuries-old traditions, allowed Chen Zuo to immerse himself fully in the city’s cultural landscape, fostering a unique environment for creative expression. Zuo noted that the residency offered him an invaluable opportunity for “unhurried focus,” allowing him time to observe, reflect, and deepen his creative process within a complex cultural framework. For the artist, the residency was more than a creative project; it was a space for immersion that would shape his next significant artistic venture.

The resulting artwork, which reflects the fusion of Suzhou’s cultural essence with Zuo’s contemporary vision, will be showcased in Hong Kong during the Art Month celebrations. This premiere will take place at The St. Regis Hong Kong and will mark a pivotal moment in the artist’s journey, providing an opportunity for local and international art collectors, cultural leaders, and guests to engage with Zuo’s work. From Hong Kong, the artwork will travel to Art Basel in Switzerland, where it will be presented in collaboration with Galerie Urs Meile, bringing the narrative of Chinese contemporary art to a global audience.

“Art of Arrival” is more than just an exhibition — it is a commitment to integrating art into the travel experience in meaningful ways. Through this initiative, Luxury Group by Marriott International aims to redefine the concept of luxury, shifting the focus from refined stays to cultural relevance and immersive encounters that leave lasting personal impressions.
The program’s expansion doesn’t end with the unveiling of Zuo’s artwork. It will continue with a Greater China tour that will take the exhibition across select Luxury Group properties, including The Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis hotels in major cities like Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai. These cultural events will include private salons, collector gatherings, and artist talks, allowing guests to engage in dialogue with the artist and explore the intersection of contemporary art and luxury hospitality.

Documenting the Artistic Journey
To fully document this creative journey, Luxury Group has partnered with Tatler China to produce a short documentary that captures Chen Zuo’s artistic process. The film follows the artist’s journey from his Beijing studio to the classical gardens of Suzhou, and ultimately to the international unveiling of his work in Hong Kong. Through moments of quiet observation and deep immersion, the documentary illustrates the essence of “Art of Arrival,” where authentic creativity is nurtured through careful attention and thoughtful reflection rather than spectacle. The film will be premiered across official platforms in late March, including Marriott Bonvoy’s WeChat channel, allowing audiences worldwide to connect with the project.
Artistic Collaborations Across Hong Kong and Greater China
As part of the broader “Art of Arrival” initiative, Luxury Group by Marriott International has also engaged with local artists and creators to foster cultural engagement across its properties in Hong Kong. The St. Regis Hong Kong, located in the heart of Wan Chai, has collaborated with Hong Kong’s premium sparkling tea brand Mindful Sparks and local artist Elsa Ngai to create a limited-edition sparkling tea experience for guests. Inspired by the signature fragrance Caroline’s Four Hundred, the tea experience is presented in a bespoke bottle adorned with Ngai’s artwork, which reflects both the vibrancy of Hong Kong’s cityscape and the hotel’s elegance.
In addition, JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong has partnered with internationally renowned sculptor Richard X. Zawitz to create the “Infinity Guestroom Floor” on the 34th floor of the hotel. This solo exhibition, starting on March 18, will feature Zawitz’s signature aesthetic of “Curvism,” seamlessly integrating sculpture into the guest experience. The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong is also participating in this cultural initiative by showcasing a site-specific art installation titled Dialogue of Stillness and Resilience, created by Angus Ting, the founder of Yiwooo, a prominent local bamboo craft brand. The installation, which will be displayed on the 103rd-floor lobby from March 17 to April 8, responds to the rhythm of daily life and ambient light, offering a moment of reflection above the city’s bustling streets.
These collaborations exemplify how the Luxury Group properties are integrating art into their offerings, transforming hotels into platforms for cultural exchange and creative expression. These experiences allow guests to engage with art in meaningful ways that go beyond traditional static exhibitions, offering an immersive and dynamic form of cultural interaction.
Cultural Engagement through Continuous Artistic Collaboration
“Art of Arrival” represents a significant departure from traditional hospitality experiences, turning every arrival into an opportunity for inspiration. By moving beyond passive observation, this initiative encourages guests to actively engage with art and culture during their travels. The program redefines luxury travel by offering cultural experiences that are deeply connected to the places they are found, making each stay more than just a trip, but rather a continuous journey of discovery.
As the “Art of Arrival” program evolves, Luxury Group by Marriott International continues to explore new ways to bring art and culture to the forefront of travel experiences. Through ongoing collaborations with artists and cultural collectives, the initiative promises to offer guests more than just refined accommodations; it provides an evolving and immersive encounter with the local culture and creative energy of each destination.
It is anticipated that “Art of Arrival” will continue to evolve and grow, bringing more artists, cultural leaders, and guests to explore the intersection of art, luxury, and travel. By redefining the intersection of hospitality and artistic expression, Marriott International’s Luxury Group is opening the door to a new travel experience, one that is enhanced by culture, creativity, and the meaningful experiences that define our travel.
