which had resumed services from Hong Kong to Vancouver, Canada, in January, has now potentially filed a significant capacity increase on the route.
From twice-weekly to daily
As flagged by AeroRoutes, Hong Kong Airlines filed a frequency increase on flights between Hong Kong International Airport
(HKG) and Vancouver International Airport
(YVR).
The Hong Kong-based carrier, rivaling Cathay Pacific, will increase its twice-weekly service to Vancouver to daily starting in May, AeroRoutes added.

Hong Kong Airlines should continue operating flights to the Canadian city with the Airbus A330-300
and on the HX80/HX81 itinerary.
According to data from the aviation analytics company Cirium’s Diio Mi airline planning tool, in May, Cathay Pacific
and Air Canada have scheduled double-daily and daily flights on the route, respectively.

Returning to North America and Vancouver
Hong Kong Airlines announced its return to North America on January 18, when the airline’s first flight to the continent since the end of the pandemic departed Hong Kong for Vancouver.
At the time, the carrier held special ceremonies in Hong Kong and Vancouver to mark the occasion, with Yan Bo, the Chairman of Hong Kong Airlines, saying that the airline was delighted to reinstate the Vancouver service, offering passengers even more choices.
“Vancouver was Hong Kong Airlines’ first North American destination, which was first launched in June 2017, and has always been popular. Resuming this route not only marks our official return to the North American market but also demonstrates the progress of our strategic transformation from a regional to an international airline earlier this year and boosting our confidence in expanding our global route network coverage.”
According to data from OAG Traffic Analyzer, between August 2023 and July 2024, 247,263 one-way passengers were flying from Hong Kong to Vancouver.

Airlines have responded to that demand by gradually introducing more services on the route. For example, while in July 2022, Cathay Pacific only offered two weekly flights from Hong Kong to Vancouver, this grew to eight weekly departures in July 2023, which does not include Air Canada’s daily flights during the latter month.
In July 2024, Cathay Pacific and Air Canada
had ten and 11 weekly flights on the route, with the two carriers increasing the number of frequencies to 24 in July 2025, namely 17 and daily, respectively.

Yet to resume flights to Los Angeles
However, just before the pandemic, Hong Kong Airlines had also served Los Angeles International Airport
(LAX). The airline had four weekly flights between Hong Kong and Los Angeles in January 2020, Cirium’s Diio Mi data showed.
In general, there are a handful of destinations that were served in July 2019 but should not be served in July 2025, at least according to the latest schedules.
